Hereditary Necrotising Myelopathy (HNM) is a degenerative neural disease that causes difficulty standing, walking and eating. The disorder is found in the Dutch Kooiker and is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene IBA57.

Kliniske egenskaper

Affected dogs generally start displaying symptoms at approximately 4 years of age, though individual cases can start as early as 6 months or as late as 10 years. Symptoms of HNM include difficulty getting up and standing, a stiff and sometimes painful gait, muscle weakness, difficulty eating and drinking, excessive drooling, anorexia, depression and an altered voice.
