Generell informasjon
White Spotting coat colour genotypes affect the development of melanocytes. Melanocytes produce melanin which is a dark pigment responsible for skin colour. Splashed white (SW) is a white spotting coat colour phenotype in horses characterised by loss of pigment. This test is designed to measure the mutation known as SW3.
Kliniske egenskaper
SW3 horses are often characterised by a large broad blaze, white markings on the legs, variable white spotting on the belly and blue eyes. Furthermore SW3 horses are sometimes deaf.
